Title 20 Compliance, Two-Speed pumps, Multi-speed pumps, upgrading pool equipment, pool pumps, pool motors
Florida has passed new energy laws that effect many different businesses including the pool industry. Title 20 was passed to help conserve energy by upgrading to more efficient pool pumps. The new pumps that are required are no longer rated by horsepower but rather RPMs. Starting January 1, 2008, any swimming pool filter pumps that burn out or break have to be replaced with either a two-speed or multi-speed motor. In order for these motors to operate, they must have automation connected to them. The reason being is because they have a computer mounted on the top of the motor which needs to be run by an automated system. If you already have automation then you only have to purchase the new pump/motor combination. If you only have your pool motor being controlled by a regular time clock where you have to manually turn on the equipment out at the equipment then you need to purchase the automation as well as the pump/motor combination. This can range anywhere from $2500-$6000 depending on how complicated you want the automation to be. Pool contractors can no longer replace a filter motor with a one speed motor. In the long run, energy will be conserved and the consumer will see cost savings with their electricity bill.
